Successfully signed into law by Gov. Bruce Rauner this past August, District 203’s Illinois Global Scholar Certificate (IGSC) was selected as one of the 15 finalists eligible for the $100,000 Thank America’s Teachers grant.

The grant will be awarded to the six finalists that receive the most votes.

If the IGSC becomes a recipient, the grant will provide support for implementing the certificate, creating numerous statewide programs such as global issues summits for Illinois students, and offering classroom resources for a wide variety of school subjects.

The main goal of the IGSC is to assist students studying various subjects, including STEM, world languages, and social studies, in gaining a global perspective. Students will be given the opportunity to collaborate with individuals located across the world and to enhance their understanding of connections in the global economy.

In order to help the IGSC receive one of the six grants, Naperville Central is encouraged to rally members of the community to vote daily during the month of October.

Naperville Central has decided to engage in friendly competition with Naperville North for more votes. Dunkin Donuts will also be offered once a week to the top 25 classrooms that have at least 100 votes during the week.

To vote, visit www.ThankAmericasTeachers.com, select “Vote for a Teacher” in the menu bar, then click “Illinois Global Scholar: Global Education Revolution” under assigned point person Seth Brady and respond to the confirmation email sent by Farmers Insurance. Voters must be 18 years or older.
