Around 300 Central seniors gathered at the Knoch Park turf field Friday, Aug. 30 to participate in Central’s second-annual Senior Sunrise.
Free Dunkin’ products were offered. Seniors were given two donuts and could choose between an assortment of flavors. Drinks included flavored refreshers and coffee.
“It’s meant as a moment of fellowship and gathering for the senior class,” said Stacy Cunningham, co-sponsor of Senior Class Council.
The event saw over three times the amount of participation compared to around the 100 seniors who participated last year. This was the first year food and drinks were provided.
Inclement weather the day of the event caused disruptions to the planned sunrise. Dunkin’ tents were originally set up outside, but sights of lighting at 5 a.m. caused the complementary food station to be relocated in the fieldhouse.
“I was a little disappointed that Senior Sunrise had no actual sunrise, and I had to get up to see basically nothing,” senior Cheryl Cheng said. “The free Dunkin’ was good.”
Seniors socialized and took photos on the Knoch Park turf field after receiving their complementary food.
“Our turnout was tremendous,” Cunningham said. “We saw people having just a lot of fun gathering together, so I hope that Senior Sunrise will continue.”
