In a crosstown meet held on Sept. 17, Naperville Central’s girls swim and dive team delivered a commanding performance against Naperville North, coming away with a 127-75 win over the Huskies.
“We were solid. The girls got up and raced. The whole team was very competitive, and there was a lot of cheering and support for one another,” head coach Mike Adams said.
Strong performances across the team included sophomore Anna Lazkovski placing first in diving and senior and team captain Natalie Vogel placing first in the 200 yard individual medley.
This win marks the first time Central’s girls swim and dive has beaten North in the last three years.
“All the girls put their best foot forward and we had some great swims as a team,” Vogel said.“For as long as I have been here, North has always been able to beat us by just a few points, but this year that changed. We were able to pull out a win of over 50 points, which in swimming, is a lot. I am very proud of how all the girls have been working at practice and it is paying off for many and being shown in the meets. “
The swimmers not only showcased their talent but also aimed to raise awareness for pediatric cancer by supporting Cal’s Angels, a nonprofit dedicated to funding research to help kids fighting cancer.
“The entire meet was uplifting and wonderful for spreading awareness of pediatric cancer awareness for Cal’s Angels and our child captain representative Yamil,” said captain Madeleine Malinger, a senior. “Our fundraiser was successful with the sale of shirts and caps to both teams.”
