Downtown Naperville has recently been treated to a fresh taste of new cuisine with the opening of Maria’s Gyro, an authentic Greek restaurant that offers a wide variety of Greek entrees at an affordable price.
Maria’s Gyro has a vibrant yellow and blue color scheme, as well as a vivid mural of Santorini. The atmosphere of the restaurant makes patrons feel like they’re grabbing a bite to eat at an authentic small restaurant in Greece.
Their food offerings include gyros, skepasti, pita pockets, souvlakia, spanakopita and feta fingers.
They also have a student special which includes a gyro of your choice, seasoned fries, and a drink of your choice all for $14.
I opted to order the student special and a classic Horiatiki Greek salad. They have many different types of protein options including chicken, beef and falafel which is vegetarian. Inside all of the gyros are their in-house Greek seasoned fries and they top all dishes with their signature yellow sauce, a tangy, sweet sauce with a hint of mustard.
The gyro was very flavorful and included crunchy falafel, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki sauce. The fries were crunchy and seasoned well. The salad was also great with feta, tomatoes, cucumbers, kalamata olives, onions, olive oil, and oregano. I felt that the food was very fresh and didn’t taste like it was pre-made. Overall, Maria’s Gyro is a wonderful lunch spot with great flavors and ambiance.
