A competitive economics club was founded in August to provide opportunities to compete in economics challenges for Central students.
The club teaches students about economic concepts through hands-on activities and participates in the Personal Finance Challenge, Economics Challenge, Fed Challenge and Euro Challenge.
“The club itself is really just a formalized version of something we’ve been doing for quite some time, probably since 2010, or 2008,” said David Ashton, who sponsors the club alongside Michael Borge. “It wasn’t formalized into a club, but we have had groups of students who’ve competed.”
The no-cut club is open to any student interested in economics.
“[Competitive economics club] has a lot of history to it,” Ashton said. “We’ve been very successful in the past. We’ve been second at Nationals a couple of times in personal finance challenge, and state champions many times.”
The club is looking to find more preparation resources.
“[We’re] hoping to bring in [an] expert guest speaker like an economics or maybe a college professor,” said junior Rohan Jain, the club’s founder and captain.
Competitive economics meets Fridays at 7:10 am in Room 224.
