Naperville Central’s boys swim team beat Waubonsie Valley’s team by a score of 106-79 on Jan. 23.
Through strong efforts from all 55 swimmers on the team, the Redhawks’ performance was helped by winning multiple relays. The meet also served as Central’s senior night.
“Waubonsie is always a great competition to go against,” assistant coach Hannah Jensen said. “It’s great to have people our boys can really push themselves against.”
The win was largely attributed to Central’s team pulling ahead in the first 200-yard medley relay. Senior AJ Landorf took the lead from the start, and the rest of the team capitalized off the momentum.
“We started out really strongly,” said senior and captain Robert Hargrove.
Last season, the Redhawks were met with a very different result, losing to the Warriors by a score of 93-79.
The team won the 200-yard medley relay finishing in one minute and 42 seconds, while Waubonsie’s team finished a second behind. The winning streak continued as they later went on to win the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
“We won all of the relays on every single level,” said Hargrove. “We just carried that momentum throughout the meet.”
