Naperville Central’s girls softball team lost 12-4 to Lake Park on Mar. 25 at home.
The game marked the second straight loss for the Redhawks in their first two games of the season.
“Lake Park hit the ball real well,¨ said head coach Andy Nussbaum. “They’re a traditionally good team, and I don’t mind playing good teams to start out with. I would have liked to perform a little better. But I think that’ll come with some time.”
According to sophomore Avery Miller, the biggest pitfall of the game was within the motivation of the team.
“We just weren’t in the game,” said Miller. “I think once we got down, we didn’t make an effort to come back. “We just stayed down instead of trying to bounce back, even though we could have.”
The team will start conference play with a crosstown matchup against Naperville North on April 14.
“We weren’t as focused for Lake Park,” Nussbaum said. “You have to be focused all the time.”
After starting the season 0-2, the Redhawks are now 2-3.
“I think we’ll bounce back and become the team that we can be,” Nussbaum said.
