An informational event for students interested in the College of Dupage, named the “COD Takeover” will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd, during all lunch periods in the main gym.
The COD Takeover will be a one-time event for Naperville Central, as it was previously held at Naperville North last year and will be held at other area high schools.
The event will have 42 tables from different departments at COD, and will include admissions, athletics, counseling, financial aid, accommodations and different academic areas.
“The point of the takeover is to just kind of bring awareness about COD for all grade levels,” said College and Career Counselor Maddie Corder. “But especially for freshmen and sophomores [so that] they can kind of understand more about what COD is.”
The event will allow students to ask questions and learn more about the different academics and services that College of DuPage offers. There will also be giveaways and an art competition for students to vote on their favorite mascot mashups of Naperville Central’s Redhawk mascot and the College of DuPage Chaparral.
“It’s like an open house style,” said Postsecondary Advising and Resource Center Coordinator Jennifer Dotson. “It’s more about what COD is and all of its resources that it offers. This is because of how many resources they really have that people are just unaware of unless they come to this takeover.”
The event is being coordinated by the PARC, and the planning involved meetings and planning throughout the school year.
“We’ve just been in communication with [College of DuPage] about what they need and what we need,” Corddr said. “We also are being supported by the department chair for school counseling, Mrs. LeRoy, and our assistant principal for student services Mrs. Neben.”
