The Central boys’ swim team returned from winter break training ready for tough competition. Their recent success has boasted strong showings on every level.
In their crosstown meet against Naperville North on Jan. 4, the Redhawks came away with a 103-81 win over the Huskies. Senior captain Noah Wood led the team to victory winning the 500 freestyle while junior Connor Lamb won both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Christian May finished first in the 50 freestyle and junior Joe Gucwa won his diving event. Although the Redhawks were bested by the Huskies in all three relay events, Central was still able to secure the win due to the strong individual performances by Wood, Lamb and May.
At the Hinsdale South college events meet on Jan. 5, varsity managed a fifth place finish out of twelve while the freshmen team won their separate freshman meet.
“College events are longer and a little different from what we usually swim,” said Lamb. “The whole team had a solid performance coming off hard training over winter break.”
Leading the freshmen to victory was Scott Piper who broke the 50 backstroke meet record. The other top freshmen finishers were Ryan Lehane, Nick Walker, Erik Gerlock and Kyle Jackson.
“Right now we are swimming well but our focus is on the end of the year where we go for the big time drops,” Lamb said.
