Naperville Central’s girls water polo team lost 15-4 against Naperville North in a crosstown match on March 25.
North scored multiple goals early on in the match. The Redhawks tried to recover, with junior Macy Fults scoring 2 goals in the first half.
Junior Meghan Tueting utilized a man-up play in order to score in the first half, which is when a defender makes an unordinary foul and is kicked out for 20 seconds.
“All of our man-up plays were really, really good,” head coach Haley Green said.
Green was named head coach last June after serving as a long-time assistant coach.
“We really are enjoying the new coaching,” senior and team captain Kaylee Shiffer said.
Tueting scored the fourth goal for the Redhawks while Fults contributed three goals throughout the game using a combination of outside shots and efficient passing.
“Macy had a really great game,” Shiffer said. “She had some great shots.”
The team hopes to improve passing and communication issues to prepare for their next matches and eventually the IHSA state series.
Their next game will be away against Lyons Township on March 27. Lyons’ water polo team finished third in the state in the 2024 IHSA State Series.
“Some goals for the rest of the season are making sure we clean up our game and we play tough, and making sure we have the mental resilience that we need,” Green said.
